Korean Music Royalty BLACKPINK meets British Royalty at Buckingham and gets a shout-out from the King himself. King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted a formal dinner party on Tuesday evening in honor of the President of South Korea’s state visit to the United Kingdom. Apart from Yoon Suk Yeol, President of South Korea, and First Lady Kim Keon Hee, around 170 guests were present at the State Banquet.
Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo, members of the popular K-pop band BLACKPINK, were also in attendance at the dinner party in Buckingham Palace. The band received a compliment from King Charles during his speech.
King Charles began by welcoming his guests in Korean. He commended the relationship that South Korea shares with Great Britain and also praised the sustainability measures that South Korea has implemented. King Charles further talked about BLACKPINK’s role in spreading the message of environmental sustainability.
King Charles said in his speech, “It is especially inspiring to see Korea’s younger generation embrace the cause. I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé, better known collectively as BLACKPINK, for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience as Ambassadors for the U.K.’s Presidency of COP 26 and later as advocates for the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.”
Members of BLACKPINK were seen exchanging glances with each other when the King was complimenting them during his speech.“I can only admire how they can prioritize these vital issues, as well as being global superstars,” King Charles continued. He also quipped, “Sadly, when I was in Seoul all those years ago, I am not sure I developed much of what might be called the Gangnam Style!”
