“Darkest Time In My Life:” Kellie Pickler Opens Up About Her Husband’s Death
Kellie Pickler finally gave a statement about her husband’s death. The 49-year-old vocalist, musician, and songwriter Kyle Jacobs died on February 17 by suicide. Pickler gave a statement to PEOPLE, on Thursday, thanking her fans for constantly supporting her in her tough time.
She said, “One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still, I have chosen to heed his advice.”
The country star further mentioned, “Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers.”
Kellie also revealed her plans for her husband’s memorial and said, “I am planning an intimate memorial for my husband, which will happen later this fall, that is what Kyle would have wanted.”
The autopsy report that PEOPLE received confirmed the cause of Jacob’s death and mentioned that the toxicology report shows that there we no drugs in his system during his time of death. Though he had a record of “pseudoseizures, gastrointestinal bleeding, elevated liver enzymes, and chronic alcohol use.“
The Nashville Police Department informed PEOPLE that there on February 17, the Department of Emergency Communications was alerted, but after their arrival, they found Jacob dead. The Highway host told them that she couldn’t find Jacob after waking up, but they immediately called the police when they couldn’t unlock the door to a room.
When he popped the question
Jacob and Pickler got married on January 1, 2011, but they did not have any children. The couple started dating back in 2008 and got engaged on June 2010, when Jacob asked the question on a Florida beach. Pickler said, “It was the most spiritual moment. We would’ve gotten married that night had there been a preacher walking by!”
After their marriage, Pickler tweeted, saying, “Private Island. Caribbean. Cigar in one hand, Rum in the other. Someone just called me “Mrs. Jacobs.”….sounds nice :).” Pickler and Jacob wrote many songs together, and “Feeling Tonight,” was the first time they ever worked as a team in the studio.Pickler always talked about how talented Jacob was and said, “He is so good at what he does. The music he’s produced for Lee Brice is all over the radio! I’m so excited to be in the studio again recording a new album, and working with Kyle has been amazing. He has watched me perform for years, so it was great to have a front row seat as an artist and see him in his element.”
