Matthew Perry Died Due To “Acute Effects Of Ketamine”; Autopsy Report Confirms
Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing in the hit NBC sitcom ‘Friends’ passed away at the age of 54 on October 28, 2023. He was found in an unresponsive state by the authorities at his Los Angeles home.
According to an Autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Matthew Perry’s death was due to “acute effects of ketamine.” Drowning, Buprenorphine, and coronary artery disease were also listed as the factors that contributed to his death.
The medical examiner notes in the report that “At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.” The autopsy report also states that his manner of death was accidental.
The report also mentions that Matthew Perry was receiving ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and anxiety. His last treatment took place “one and a half weeks before” his demise. Even though “trace amounts of Ketamine” were present in his system at death, it was not from his last infusion therapy. This is because “ketamine’s half-life is only three to four hours or less,” notes the medical examiner.
Perry was reportedly clean for 19 months. He was found unconscious in a residential pool. However, no drugs or drug-related paraphernalia was found beside the pool. Prescription medication and loose pills were also not present at Matthew Perry’s residence at the time of his death.
It is unclear how the ketamine, which is a “dissociative anesthetic,” got into Perry’s system, as the coroner listed “unknown route of drug intake” as one of the reasons for how injury occurred, resulting in his death.
