SAG-AFTRA Strike Finally Comes To An End: The Final Deal Has Been Approved
The historical strike is finally coming to an end. The SAG-AFTRA negotiators have agreed to a tentative agreement that is going to end the longest strikers the actors have ever done against the TV studios and film in the history of Hollywood.
The actors announced that their 118-day strike is going to officially end on Thursday at 12.01 AM. The unanimous vote got the deal approved by the Union’s negotiating company. The agreement will go for approval by the SAG-AFTRA national board on Friday.
Both sides spent a lot of time in the last few days giving the finishing touches to the deal, which had added protection against artificial intelligence for the actors and an increase in pay. There will be a minimum increase of 7%.
The deal also has a” streaming participation bonus,” according to the email sent to one of the SAG-AFTRA members, and contributions for health concerns and pensions have also been increased. The union mentioned that the contract is a lot more than one billion dollars in total.
The email read, “We have arrived at a contract that will enable SAG-AFTRA members from every category to build sustainable careers. Many thousands of performers now and into the future will benefit from this work.”
Kevin E. West, a committee member, mentioned that there were “tears of exhilaration and joy” after the approval of the contract. He said, “Many thousands of performers now and into the future will benefit from this work. It’s honestly been a really long two weeks.”
The union did not get everything it asked for, and they are going to be back for negotiations in 2026, said Ben Whitehair. He also mentioned that “When performers understand what was gained, they’re going to be thrilled.”
