The Singer And Songwriter Of “I’m On Fire,” Dwight Twilley, Passed Away At 72
Dwight Twilley, the singer-songwriter popularly known for his hits like “Girls” and “I’m on Fire,” passed away at the age of 72. His wife Jan confirmed the news from Tulsa’s Church Studio, where Twilley had recorded numerous songs like “I’m on Fire.”
The statement read, “He peacefully departed this world, surrounded by the love of his life, Jan, and close friends. The loss is immeasurable, and our words can’t capture the depth of our grief. Dwight’s musical prowess touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many. We are profoundly thankful for the enduring musical legacy he has bestowed upon us all.”
Twilley was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on June 6, 1951. He formed Pister, the music group there with Phil Seymour during the late 1960s. He also included Bill Pitcock IV as a part-time member on lead guitar.
Twilley eventually pursued professional recording. Twilley and Seymour wandered into Sun Studio, where Jerry Phillips referred them to Ray Harris, former Sun artist. The musician then introduced Seymour and Twilley to “the Sun sound,’ roughing up their Beatles-obsessed style a bit and creating a unique and endearing sound,” according to the official website Twilley had.
Back in 1974, Seymour and Twilley went to Los Angeles and signed with the Shelter Records, which is co-owned by Leon Russel and Deny Cordell. Cordell then changed the name of the group from Oister to Dwight Twilley Band. after that, they recorded the song “I’m on Fire” at the Church Studio.
In 1996, two songs appeared in the best collection “XXI.” Twilley, after that, released two amazing rare albums in 1999. One was “Tulsa,” and the other one was “Between the Cracks, Vol.1.”
