Eshika Dey To Play Ranu Mondal In Biopic: Director Says Actors Refused Role As ‘They Found It Insulting’

When Ranu Mondal was singing Lata Mangeshkar’s famous song ‘Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai’ at Ranaghat Railway Station, who knew her life would change overnight, right? But, the video of her song went viral on social media, and she became an internet sensation. People even compared her to the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar herself. Her fame has reached such heights that she will have her biopic, and according to sources, Eshika Dey will play the lead.

Is Her Story Worthy Of A Biopic?

It looks like Ranu Mondal’s story was so inspiring that it became worthy of a film. She was living on the pavement in Ranaghat Railway Station and was sometimes singing. While others would stop to listen to her, some would just pass by. But, her life changed overnight when one video of her singing went viral on social media. 

Himesh Reshammiya found her video and offered her a song deal on the ‘Happy Hardy And Heer’ movie. Her fame has known no bounds since then. Even we caught the singer snapping at a fan when he asked for a selfie with her. So, it is indeed a story worth sharing. Now, let’s take a look at the list of actors who were considered for this role.

Eshika Dey-The Lifesaver

Director Hrishikesh Mondal conceptualized this film and idolized Sudiptaa Chakraborty for this role. Initially, he thought of making the film in Bengali. However, Sudiptaa Chakraborty is an award-winning national actor, so her role in the lead would have made a significant contribution.

But then the director decided to make the film in Hindi. Sudiptaa was keen to do the role but faced some problems with dates. The director said they had a few actors in mind, but none thought it was a worthy project. Even some actors also noted that it was insulting for them to play Ranu Mondal. Finally, Eshika Dey agreed to do the role.

The scriptwriter of the film, Soumen Ghosh, contacted Eshika through Facebook. When the actor agreed to play the part, she was not even halfway through the script. But, she decided to do the role because she got inspired by the character of Ranu Mondal herself. She said:

“The only reason I am thrilled to play the role is the numerous shades of the character.”

Eshika has also got recent fame with her acting in Laal Kaptan and Sacred Games. She is undergoing psychological counseling under the guidance of Kamalika Bhattacharya to ace the role of Ranu Mondal. She has to play her younger version and also her older version. But, according to Eshika, the biggest challenge she is facing is to reduce 10 kg, and we hope she will emerge victorious here.

Closing Thoughts

As far as we know, the director has gotten in touch with Ranu, but the actor has not yet spoken to her. Hrishikesh Mondal also said that he would request Himesh Reshamiyan to play a guest role in the movie. But, we have not yet got any confirmation from the singer that he will appear in the film, so we hope to get some positive news in this context.
