Shang-Chi First Weekend Box Office Collection: MCU Film Earns Dazzling $140 Million Worldwide
The massive box office collection of Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings will most likely revive the world of drama business. The movie has collected $83.5 million in the North American region, while it has made an astounding collection of 6.30 Crore in India. It broke the Halloween record of Rob Zombie just at the opening weekend, and it stands to gain much more.
What Is The Movie About?
There are chilling flashbacks where we see the backstory of Shang Chi. We see Wenwu training Shang Chi to become a killer to use him later in his revenge quest. But, his plan went to hell when young Shang Chi ran to San Francisco to start his life afresh. But, he soon learns that his sister, Xialing, is in danger and returns to China, and we see the close bond Shang Chi has with his family.
We see Shang Chi’s best friend Katy accompanying him to China, and the tense situations become light. But, Katy’s role is more than comic relief. She becomes deeply engrossed in Shang Chi’s natural world and keeps on offering him emotional support in all his struggles.
By the end of the movie, Shang-Chi comes face to face with Wenwu, who believes that Shang Chi’s mother, aka his wife, is not dead. Wenwu is armed with Ten Rings in this epic battle and manages to distract Shang-Chi from entering the place where he believes his wife is. However, Shang-Chi finally defeats Wenwu by leveraging the strengths of nature and returns home with Katy.
How’s The Rating?
In Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has scored 92%. On IMDB, the film has got a 4-star rating with a score of 8 out of 10. The senior media analyst at Comscore, Paul Dergarabedian, said that it was the ultimate confidence builder in the film industry since Spider-Man: Far From Home. He said:
“Shang Qi truly proves the power of the theater’s priority strategy, which can attract a large number of movie audiences to the theater multiplex.”
Ektaa Malik of the India Express gave the movie a relatively low rating of 2 out of 5. She said that the film had the potential to open the doors to Asian Pride in Hollywood cinema. But, unfortunately, it did not dive deep into its potential. She said:
“This movie could have become a real rule of the game. The changers, especially in 2021, after the Covid pandemic, when hate crimes against Asians reached an all-time high. Sadly, it only scratched the surface and adopted peripheral nods to recognize Asian culture and ideas.”
What We Think
It looks like the Simu Liu starred movie has gathered quite great praise from the media worldwide. The $140 million collections are indeed something to cheer about, and it is reviving the world of theatrical release once again. So, we hope the movie makes more money and stays a hit this year.
