Shortly after the news of his death was announced, Sylvester Stallon, Young’s co-star in Rocky Films, paid homage to his friend’s memory on Twitter. He shared a black and white photograph of the two of them along with a heartfelt caption that read, “To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man and artist, I and the World will miss you very much…RIP.”
Burt Young’s Early Life…
Actor Burt Young was born Gerald Tommaso DeLouise in Queens Borough, New York City, to parents of Italian heritage. He left school at the age of 15 to join the US Marine Corps. He served in the Marines from 1957-59. After leaving the Marines, he studied and received training in acting from Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio.
The veteran character actor made his TV acting debut in 1969. He played the role of a bartender in the TV series “The Doctors.” Next year, Burt Young made his big-screen debut with the horror film “Carnival of Blood.”
Young went on to play small but memorable roles in films like “Born to Win” (1971), “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight” (1971), “Across 110th Street” (1972), “Cinderella Liberty” (1973), “The Gambler” (1974), “The Killer Elite” (1975), and many more.
However, without a doubt, the movie that played a significant role in his acting career path is “Rocky” (1976), directed by John G. Avildsen and scripted by Sylvester Stallone.
