Jeff Bezos and Fiancée Lauren Sánchez Are Celebrating Their Engagement in Style: a $500m Yacht is Involved
Billionaire Jeff Bezos and Emmy-winning journalist Lauren Sánchez hosted an engagement party aboard the Amazon chief’s yacht while on the Amalfi Coast in Italy on Wednesday. A source for PEOPLE magazine- an authority in entertainment news, has confirmed the incident.
The celebration has taken place over two months after the couple got engaged back in May. Bezos made his relationship with Sánchez public in January 2019. Bezos had just announced his separation from now-ex MacKenzie Scott after nearly 25 years of marriage.
Sánchez, too, was in the middle of her divorce from her husband of 13 years, Patrick Whitesell, at that time. She shares two children with her ex and a son from another relationship with the former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.
A source has spoken to People, confirming that Bezos and Sánchez “are really in love and happy which makes everyone who knows them happy.” The source continued, “All of her friends say this is her dream come true. She found the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with and they felt the time was right.”
The couple was seen showing off Sánchez’s engagement ring while on the $500 million dollar yacht. They are spending lots of quality time together while on their cruise. Last week they were spotted kissing while in Capri.
The vessel is named Koru and is believed to be the largest sailing yacht in the world. It features a wooden sculpture that is made in the likeness of Sánchez, placed on the prow. It bears the symbol of Koru, which is Māori for loop or coil, depicting the spiral shape of an unfurling silver fern frond like a necklace.
Ever since he stepped down as the CEO of Amazon back in 2021, Bezos has been busy with efforts for conservation and his space exploration venture, Blue Origin. The couple is very dedicated to working for the Bezos Earth Fund, an initiative that is helping fight climate change. Sánchez co-chairs the partnership.
In a joint interview, Bezos expressed his wish to give away most of his $124 billion fortune, focusing on climate change and bridging the divide over social and political issues. Bezos stated that “the hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way.” Sánchez described her relationship with Bezos, saying they’re “really great teammates.”
