Lady Gaga Announces Joker: Folie A Deux, Opposite Joaquin Phoenix, With A Musical Teaser
Actress and Pop Icon Lady Gaga just announced the upcoming Joker: Folie A Deux, the sequel to the 2019 Joker. The Oscar-winning actress tased a musical number, “Cheek to Cheek,” on Twitter, captioning the release date October 4th, 2024.
The teaser showed two silhouettes dancing together with the song written by Irving Berlin in 1935 for the movie Top Hat. The manes of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga flashed as the silhouettes danced on.
It has been confirmed that Phoenix will be reprising his role as Arthur Fleck, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2019. The story depicts the origin story of Joker, Batman’s arch-nemesis.
Though further details are not shared by Warner Bros yet. But it is highly expected for Lady Gaga to play the psychotic accomplice of Joker, Harley Quinn.
Gaga is the newest actress to be cast as Harley Quinn after Margot Robbie played “the Crime Queen of Gotham city” in three films. However, it is not clear whether Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn or not.
But it has been clear since the beginning that Suicide Squad and Joker are based in different universes in the Multiverse. So it is possible for Robbie to play the crazy-cooky Harley Quinn, one of the iconic villains of the DC Universe.
For those of you who don’t know, Folie A Deux means shared or identical mental disorder. It foreshadows the co-dependent and toxic relationship between Harley and Joker.
