Dj Casper, ‘Cha Cha Slide’ Creator, Passed Away At 58, After Battling Cancer
World-famous DJ Casper, the creator of “Cha Cha Slide,” passed away at the age of 58. The Chicago native lost the battle to Cancer on Monday. Last May, he had a talk with ABC7 and discussed his decades of international fame and his health struggles as well. This was the last television interview he gave.
He could be named one of the greatest treasures that Chicago ever had. He was the one who came with the popular line dances that we have to date. Inspite of all the fame, he never forgot his roots.
In his interview with ABC7, he mentioned the challenges he was facing regarding his health and promised to stay positive and live every moment. He has left a song behind that would bring people together for all their walks.
He said, “When I first did it, I did it as an aerobic exercise for my nephew at Bally’s. From there, it just took off. Elroy Smith from WGCI grabbed ahold of it. I have one of the biggest songs that is played at all stadiums: hockey, basketball, football, baseball; they played it at the Olympics. It was something that everybody could do.”
He even went on a tour with James Brown, but everything had to stop when he was diagnosed with cancer. He said, “They diagnosed me in 2016 with two kinds of cancer, which is renal and Neuroendocrine, which is kidney and liver. They went in to try to do surgery, and they found out the kidney was connected to the main artery, so they decided not to do it and just treat it.“
His battle with cancer
He had fought many battles over these years and shared that he was having trouble eating and was losing weight as well. He said, “I used to weigh 236 pounds, and I think I’m about 60 pounds less. If you know me, you know I’m not going to stop. I’m going to continue to go. I’m going to continue to go until I can’t go.”
He said that he is hoping that his “Cha Cha Slide” will remind people of the power of unity, positivity, and community. He did leave behind a message for those who are struggling.
He said, “Anybody that’s going through cancer knows that you have cancer, and cancer does not have you. So, keep on doing the ‘Cha Cha Slide.‘” Monday, Kim, Casper’s wife, disclosed the news that he lost the battle to cancer and has his loved ones during the end.
