Let The Hunt Begin: Kraven The Hunter Trailer, Cast, Plot And More
Sony is currently on a roll. With the ‘Spider-Man 2‘ game just around the corner, Sony is all set to release its villain spin-off movie ‘Kraven the Hunter‘, highlighting the iconic villain of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The movie could be used as an origin story exploring several nuances of Kraven‘s character and events that would subsequently turn him into a villain.
Before releasing the trailer, Sony Pictures released the official first look on Twitter, captioning, ‘Villains aren’t born. They’re made. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is #KravenTheHunter – exclusively in movie theaters October“.
Soon after, the action-packed trailer was released, showing Aron Taylor-Johnson donning the role of Kraven. Other cast members include Russel Crowe as Kraven’s father, Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, and Alessandro Nivola as the Rhino. Fans also speculate that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) could make a cameo appearance in the film since Sony and Marvel cinematic Universe collided back in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Unlike Marvel, Sony is unwilling to pull any punches and wants the audience to know that Kraven is ultimately a villain. In the trailer, we could see several gruesome kills by Kraven, which suggests that the movie could be rated ‘R’. As for the plot, we see Kraven on a rampage, hunting and killing his father’s henchmen. At one point in time, we see Kraven surrounded by hundreds of spiders in the woods. This could be a nod to the character’s iconic arch-nemesis.
According to the film’s screenwriter Richard Wenk, Sony intends to adapt the Kraven’s Last Hunt storyline at some point, where Kraven manages to kill Spider-Man and temporarily takes on the role of Spider-Man. This movie could be a stepping stone to that idea, given how Kraven is shown to be an expert martial artist and have superhuman strength and agility, similar to our webbed hero.
The trailer fits the character perfectly, and Aron Taylor-Johnson seems to be in the zone. However, any long-standing fan of Spider-Man would miss the thick Russian accent that is iconic to the character, which this iteration seems to lack.
Nonetheless, fans are eagerly waiting for the release date October 6th, to see a new iteration of the iconic villain and how he would fit the pantheon of heroes and villains.
