Melissa Barrera Finally Addresses Her Removal From The Sets Of Scream 7!

Melissa Barrera has something to say addressing the comments that got her randomly fired from the sets of Scream 7.

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old actor took to the Instagram story to tell her followers, “First and foremost, I condemn Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people. As a Latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need.

Then, Barrera also mentioned that “every person on this earth — regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status — deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom.” She also ensured that “a group of people are NOT their leadership, and that no governing body should be above criticism.”

In spite of the production company dropping Barrera from the Scream franchise, she promised to “continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom.” She ended her post with the words, “Silence is not an option for me.

Here’s What Happened:

Spyglass Entertainment, the production company behind the Scream franchise, fired Barrera from the movie after she made her opinions about the unfortunate Israel-Hamas public, which in turn was called ‘antisemitic’ by the studio.

On Tuesday, the production company released a statement, “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear. We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.

Since the beginning of the conflict on 7th October, when the Hamas forces simply crossed the border at Gaza and invaded Israel, Barrera has taken to Instagram multiple times to talk about the terrorist attack.

Only last month, she wrote, “I, too, come from a colonized country. Palestine WILL be free. They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds. At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded for who I include than be included for who I exclude. Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp. Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water. People have learned nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.

Christopher Landon, the director of Scream 7, has made it very clear that getting rid of Barrera from the movie wasn’t his decision. Landon also asked all the angry fans to just stop yelling.
