Oppenheimer Earns 57 Crores In Opening Weekend In India: 7th Highest For Hollywood!

Oppenheimer just wrapped up its opening weekend in the Indian subcontinent and has earned a whopping 58 crores in India alone. There was only a minor decline in box office collections on Sunday, but this is so typical for Hollywood films since business usually slows downs on Sunday nights in bigger centers.

Plus, such a decline is mostly compensated by Hindi versions that grow in smaller centers on Sundays. But naturally, centers with limited Hindi versions can see a major drop on Sundays, which is exactly what happened for Oppenheimer as well.

Currently, Nolan’s Oppenheimer has the 7th highest opening weekend or, rather, three days total for a Hollywood movie.

In the whole Indian subcontinent, the biggest hits from Hollywood are inevitably action-adventure franchise movies like the Avengers or Justice League franchise. But to watch a 3-hour long talky drama to put these numbers is absolutely unimaginable. Credit here obviously goes to the director of the film – the great Christopher Nolan, who has a passionate following in India.

However, inspite of so much attention from fans, Nolan’s films have never generated such numbers, especially on opening weekend. The numbers for Oppenheimer’s opening weekend are four times more than of Nolan’s last – yep, Dunkirk.

In fact, Oppenheimer has already managed to become the highest grosser for Nolan in India, and that too in only three days, beating his other BIG films like Interstellar, which earned 50 crores in its opening weekend, and The Dark Knight Rises, earned 55.50 crores.

The film has witnessed incredible sales, and that too in advance with nearly-sold-out shows in the IMAX format through the month of August. It can be predicted that the film will comfortably cross the 100 crore mark and even end up challenging the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of the year in India, Fast X.

Oppenheimer’s collections at the Indian box office are as follows,

Friday: Rs. 17.50 crores

Saturday: Rs. 20.25 crores

Sunday: Rs. 20 crores

Total: Rs. 57.75 crores

So far, India has evidently proven to be the best-performing global market for Nolan’s Oppenheimer, boating a weekend worth $7 million! This makes India the second highest-grossing market overseas, trailing only a little behind the U.K., which actually earned a solid $14 million

Surprisingly, India’s performance has outshined typically huge Hollywood markers like Germany, Australia, and France, inspite of Germany having the benefit of a five or four-day weekend. If you consider ticket sales, then it gets even better for India, with over 2.20 million admits; India has done better than the U.K. at 1.10 million admits.
