Selena Gomez Deletes ‘Only Murders’ Instagram Post After Being Accused of Breaking SAG-AFTRA Strike Rules
An Instagram post tagging Selena Gomez’s Hulu series Only Murders in the Building was deleted from her account, after the singer/actor was accused of breaking the SAG-AFTRA strike rules, by many of her followers.
The post was a video from the comedy show’s set where Gomez had tagged the show’s official IG account. The caption for the video read – ‘Missing and wanting.’ This post generated more than a million likes in just fifteen hours, before getting pulled from the Single Soon singer.
The Technicalities…
The strike rules of SAG-AFTRA prohibit members from actually promoting their work through social media posts or press interviews. Although Gomez did not actually speak in the video nor did she motivate her followers to watch her show in the caption, she did tag the Only Murders in the Building account.
The tagging made her followers assume that the video was taken on the set of the popular Hulu show. Whether that is a rule break is debatable. Many followers accused Gomez of scabbing and one follower even called the post ‘tone deaf’ in the middle of the strikes.
About Only Murders In The Building:
Currently, Only Murders in the Building is airing its third season on Hulu starring Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. Gomez plays the role of Mabel Mora, a young artist with a penchant for investigating (and solving) murders in New York City. Gomez has been a regular on the show since the pilot episode aired.
Since the strike is on, Gomez and her co-stars haven’t given interviews promoting the show’s new season.
