Zac Efron Is Honored To Play Matthew Perry In A Biopic About Perry’s Life!
We hear that Zac Efron will be no less than honored to portray the late Matthew Perry on screen. Reportedly, the High School Musical alum graciously responded after Perry expressed his interest in having Efron play his role in a biopic about his life.
At the premiere of Efron’s film, The Iron Claw, on Wednesday, Efron told People, “I’m honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him. We’ll see. I’d be honored to do it.”
Efron On Perry’s Death:
Efron also shared that he is ‘devasted’ by the sudden death of Perry, his co-star from 17 Again. He said, “He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together. I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming ’17 Again,’ it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there because I’ve learned so much from him, from his whole life.”
Effron player Perry’s younger version, Mike O’Donnell, in the 2009 film.
Before Perry’s death on 28th October, one of the very last people spotted with him was his friend Athenna Crosby. Crosby had revealed previously that he did want The Greatest Showman star to be in his film.
Crosby On Perry’s Death And The Biopic:
Earlier this month, Crosby told Entertainment Tonight, “He had worked with Zac Efron in the past on a movie, and he said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version [of himself] and that he was gonna ask him soon to do that. He was just looking forward to sharing more about his story and his recovery from addiction and really championing that cause to help more people, so he was optimistic and happy about everything that he wanted to do.”
Crosby added that The Friends alum was ‘enthusiastic’ about his biopic and positive about life before his tragic death from drowning at his L.A. home. He was only 54. Only a day ago, Perry and Crosby had met for lunch around 2 p.m. at Hotel Bel-Air.
She recalled later, “He was talking about how there’s been a public resurgence of interest in him lately and how he was hoping to utilize that to have a second act in his career. He was happy as a clam. So, that’s the person that I spoke to.”
The much-loved actor was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, California, in a private section on 3rd November.
His Friends co-stars, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courtney Cox, and Jennifer Aniston attended the funeral. Recently, insiders confided in Page Six that Aniston is struggling the most with the tragedy.
