‘Mr. Big Stuff’ Singer Jean Knight Deceased At The Age Of 80
R&B and Soul Singer Jean Knight best known for her 1971 chart-topping single ‘Mr. Big Stuff,’ passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday. According to Jean Knight’s publicist, the singer’s death was due to natural causes. Her family has also published a press release paying tribute to Knight’s musical journey, which began with a cover of the song “Stop Doggin Me Around” on Jetstream Records. The statement published by her family also notes Jean Knight’s contribution to the genre of soul music.
The Press Release began by stating, “New Orleans and the Music World mourns the loss of one of its most treasured musical daughters, Jean Knight, who departed this world on November 22, 2023, at the age of 80. Ms. Knight, a native of New Orleans, became an integral part of the city’s musical legacy.
It ends with, “Jean Knight’s legacy is not just a musical one; it is a testament to the enduring love between an artist, her hometown, and the fans who adored her. As we bid farewell to this iconic soulstress, New Orleans and her global fan base join together in gratitude for the indelible mark she left on the world.
In the press statement, her family also requested ‘privacy during this difficult time’ and also conveyed ‘heartfelt gratitude for the love and support from fans.’
Throughout her long career, Jean Knight released several notable singles, such as ‘You Think You’re Hot Stuff,” “Helping Man,” “My Toot Toot,” “Carry On,” and more. However, none of her other songs managed to achieve the success of “Mr. Big Stuff.”
