Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings – Latest Controversy, Release Date
‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings’ is about to get released. It is the first film of Marvel Studios with an Asian lead. We got to know the existence of this movie back in 2018, but nothing was confirmed then. Finally, at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, we got confirmed news about the movie’s release.
Let’s Look At The Trailer Speculations
The official trailer of the movie was launched in 2021. As far as we have interpreted it from the trailer, it looks like Shang-Chi has got some daddy issues. First, we see Wenwu narrating to Shang-Chi his family’s relationship with the Ten Rings, proving him a worthy successor. Later we see that Shang-Chi thinks of his father as a criminal, and a murderer, which gives rise to an epic father-son battle.
We have also got some exciting news from the second trailer. First, it gives us a brief introduction to Shang-Chi’s friend, Katy. This role is played by the famous American actress and rapper, Awkwafina. But, we also see the father-son conflict again, so it seems like that will be a big part of the film.
What Do We Know About Shang-Chi From Our Comic Reads?
Shang-Chi first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1973. He was a master of unarmed combat and was born to the supervillain Fu Manchu. In 2013, he joined The Avengers. But, Shang-Chi’s real dad is a racial stereotype and won’t appear in this new film.

Instead, we will see a known villain of Marvel Studios, Mandarin, appearing as the dad of Shang-Chi, the leader of Ten Rings. Tony Leung Chiu-wai will be playing this role and hopefully will be nailing it. As Director Daniel Cretton puts it:
“I think [Leung] brings a humanity that we need for that character.”
We can also give you a brief about the Ten Rings. As far as we know it, it’s a dominant terrorist group that kidnaps people. Go back to your memories when Tony Stark got abducted by a group of people in the first Iron Man movie. It was then when the birth of Iron Man happened because Robert Downey Jr. was making the suit while being held captive by that gang.
So, as you can see, the Ten Rings was already introduced long before in the Marvel movies, way before we heard any rumors about this new movie. But, in this movie, the Ten Rings will have a different portrayal because we see Wenwu telling Shang-Chi:
‘Thoughout my life, the Ten Rings gave our family power.’
We also see in the trailer that people belonging to the Ten Rings gang are wearing bracelets with eerie lights and superpowers. So, that’ll be something to look forward to, right?
When, And How Can We Watch It?
The film will release on 16th August in the theaters. It was supposed to be released in February, but they have been postponing it due to the pandemic surge. The movie will have its first premiere in LA on 16th August and run for 45 days exclusively.
But, if you want to watch this new Marvel release, you may have to wait just a few days longer. Until its theater days are not getting over, you can’t access it on other sites. But, around mid-October, it is set to release in Disney and Disney Plus Hotstar.
Final Thoughts
It looks like the new movie of Simu Liu is already winning the hearts of many Marvel fans. On top of that, the appearance of rapper Awkwafina is also generating a wave of excitement in the fans. As far as we have seen in the trailer, it will be an action-packed movie with underwater battles, bus fights, and car chases.
So, let’s fasten your seatbelts and wait for a few more days before Shang-Chi, and The Legend of Ten Rings comes to surprise us.
