Suzanne Somers loses battle with cancer: Passes away at 76
Suzanne Somers passed away at the age of 76 after losing a 23-year-long battle with a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer. As told to Page Six by her longtime publicist, R. Couri Hay, the American actress and writer best known for her performance in Step by Step and Three’s Company died peacefully at her home in the early hours of October 15, which was the day before her 77th birthday on October 16.
Her publicist also released a statement on behalf of Suzanne Somer’s family that read, “Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years.” In the same statement, Hay noted that “Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”
Hay also mentioned that Suzanne Somers would be laid to her final rest in a private family burial this week, and a memorial will be held next month.
While talking to Page Six, a friend of Suzanne Somers revealed that “She died in her new ‘all green home’ in Palm Springs in her sleep with her loving husband by her side.”
Another source also divulged on Page six that shortly before her death, Suzanne’s husband, Hamel, had surprised his wife with an early birthday present. The present consisted of pink peonies (Suzanne’s favorite flowers) accompanied by a handwritten love poem.
The tragic news of Somers passing away comes within three months of Somers announcing on instagram that her breast cancer has returned. At that time, she had also talked about her husband Alan Hamel and Son Bruce being her support system throughout her long drawn-out battle with cancer.
