We Have No Shame: Ryan Reynolds On Hollywood Mimicking Bollywood
The Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds shared a personal message for his fans in India that the plot of Free Guy is similar to many Bollywood movies. He shared the news in a YouTube video where he first started talking about his film. But then he went on joking that the movie is inspired by Bollywood.
What Did Reynolds Say?
Reynolds said that in the movie Free Guy, a guy named Shawn is ‘quite the Romeo’ chasing after a girl who is way out of her league. He also said that the movie has a crazy villain, some action scenes, and some dancing.
Reynolds is playing the role of Shawn, and he is chasing a girl whose role is being played by actor Jodie Comer. He did not fail to mention that people will be seen dancing on the road too. So, the movie resembles Bollywood from many angles.
He said:
“If you’re wondering whether Hollywood is just mimicking Bollywood…Well, the answer is yes. We have no shame, no shame at all.”
What Is The Film About?
Free Guy is written by Zak Penn and Matt Lieberman. The film showcases Ryan playing a supporting role in a video game. Basically, he is an NPC (non-playable character) in a real-life video game like the GTA. But, when he realizes that his world is facing an existential crisis, he decides to be the hero himself.
In an earlier press conference, Reynolds also disclosed that he really enjoyed playing a ‘naive and innocent character in the movie. However, the film also showcases how Ryan is an immature adult despite being a grown man.
After the bank teller discovers that he is just a supporting character, he rewrites his own story. Then, he embarks on a world with no limits and restrictions on what a man can or cannot do. He decides to save the world and even encounters a little romance in between with the coder.
By the end of the film, we see Ryan is being ported into another game. That is confusing because we did not know a video game character could exist outside the game, so we hope there will be a sequel to this movie.
Free Guy has got some excellent reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a rating of 80%, and in IMDB, it received 7.6 stars. Besides Reynolds, we will also see Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Lil Rey Howery, Joe Keery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar as supporting characters.
What We Think
We think the film’s script is clever and sweet, and that’s why it is doing well at the box office. However, we believe it was hilarious to see Ryan’s joke of the movie being inspired by Bollywood. We just hope the actor keeps on doing more impressive performances, and we hope Free Guy does well in theaters.
