A24’s Sports Drama Featuring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, Slated for Christmas Release

The Iron Claw, a sports drama, is set to be released nationwide on December 22. They are sharing the release date with an offbeat animated comedy from the house of Universal and Illumination called Migration. The release comes days after the premier of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is slated for December 20th. The blingy musical adaptation of The Color Purple is set to arrive a few days later.

Although set to release during the awards season, The Iron Claw is still in post-production and will not be around for the film festivals. Sean Durkin has written and directed The Iron Claw, which narrates the tragic events surrounding the Von Erich family. A legendary family of generations of wrestlers who set records in the early 1980s in the intensely fierce sport.

The brothers battled inside the ring while grappling with a series of tragic events outside, dubbed the “Von Erich curse.” Efron plays Kevin Von Erich, whereas White portrays Kerry Von Erich, along with Harris Dickinson, who plays David Von Erich. A24 released a still from the film, which featured a brotherly moment between the jacked-up brothers.

The internet has been abuzz with the transformations of each of the actors, especially Zac, who went viral for a pic of him inside the boxing ring. White has reportedly gained 40 pounds of muscle to justify his role.

Financed and produced by A24 along with House Productions, The Iron Claw is co-financed by BBC Film and Access Entertainment. It is produced by Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Angus Lamont of House Productions, Durkin, and A24. The executive producers are Derrin Schlesinger and Harrison Huffman from House Productions, Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen from Access Entertainment, and Eva Yates from BBC Film.
