Grammys 2024: We Couldn’t Stop Crying For Miley Cyrus! A Story Of Self Love, Healing, And Flowers!
“Started to cry, then remembered I just won my first Grammy!” – Dare I say, legendary? Yes Miley, take a bow.
There is something so fulfilling about watching Miley Cyrus win her first Grammy at the Grammys 2024 recently. And when she came back on the stage later, the singer delivered one hell of a performance. We know we were crying, especially if you have been her fan since her Hannah Montana days.
But have you wondered what was so great about this moment? It’s our favorite Grammy moment (well, apart from Taylor Swift’s big secret!).
After all, this was Miley’s best shot at winning a Grammy in years. She finally wrote a song about loving herself, healing, and being the love of your own life.
You go, girl!
Why Was This Miley Cyrus’ Best Shot To Win A Grammy?
For the most part of her career, Miley has been a fan favorite – she has always enjoyed popularity. But when it comes to being a critic’s favorite, she hasn’t been very successful.
In fact, the singer has actually been scoring some massive wins on all the charts and selling thousands for over fifteen years.
But for some strange reason, she hasn’t won any Grammy.
However, things were different this year! Undoubtedly, she is one of the most highly nominated artists for Grammys 2024. And it is easily one of her best shots to finally win her career’s biggest prize.
This time, she was up for six trophies that tied her with multiple other stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Billie Eilis. She was nominated for honorable categories, and while these are also the most competitive categories, it does seem like the former Disney superstar was headed for victory.
Miley Cyrus And ‘Flowers’ – A Match Made In Music Heaven
Thanks to Cyrus’ smashing single ‘Flowers,’ she was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. Undoubtedly, her hit solo revitalized her music career.
Even before the Grammys 2024, fans, critics, and music enthusiasts had talked about how the solo could easily win all three awards. It wouldn’t have been a stretch for that to happen! After all, the song is one of the most memorable hits.
Moreover, at the time of the song’s release, everyone adored the song, applauding Cyrus for writing such a mutual track.
The song had a huge shot at winning the very coveted Record of the Year, with multiple fans even calling the song the presumptive winner.
Moreover, it is also possible for Cyrus to win the Best Pop Solo Performance for the very same track. That field isn’t relatively less competitive as compared to Record of the Year, considering the singer was up against the same tracks in both categories, and voters can always sway anyway.
Voters might have voted for ‘Flowers’ in both categories or for either one of the categories, while the other category could have Eilish or Swift as the winner.
Additionally, even Song of the Year was also up for grabs. But early predictions did say that the song might not win this one. In fact, it was anticipated that ‘What Was I Made For?’ by Billie Eilish from Barbie’s soundtrack would win Song of the Year.
Other Nominations For Cyrus:
Beyond ‘Flowers,’ Cyrus has also bagged nominations in three different categories. But her chances in those categories did not seem very good.
While her recent album, Endless Summer Vacation, has bagged nominations for both Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, she is not likely to win those.
Also, Brandi Carlile and Cyrus have bagged a nomination for Best Group Performance/Pop Duo for their collaboration project, ‘Thousand Miles.’ But the song wasn’t expected to win anything.
Looking Back:
Of course, before the Grammys 2024, Cyrus bagged several nominations. But there is no doubt that this is her best showing so far. Even before the Grammy nominations were rolled out towards the end of 2023, the artist earned only a few nods.
In 2022, she bagged a nomination as a featured artist on Montero by Lil Nas X for Album of the Year.
In both these instances, we didn’t expect Cyrus to win, and she did not win a Grammy either. For most of her early work, the singer and actress wasn’t apparently taken seriously. Yes, the Recording Academy did not take her seriously enough to warrant any recognition.
Since earning her first nomination, many industry professionals and fans have talked about how she might be overdue for some more nominations if not a few wins at the very least. But that so far did not happen.
Grammys 2024: Miley Cyrus Wins Her First Grammy!
Miley Cyrus is FINALLY getting what she deserves – she got her flowers at the Grammys!
The 31-year-old Party in the USA singer won her first Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance at Grammys 2024. ‘Flowers’ was the leading single off Endless Summer Vacation, her 8th studio album.
Early in the ceremony, Cyrus received the award from Mariah Carey.
At the time, Cyrus said, “I just got stuck in the rain in traffic and thought I was going to miss this moment. And I could have missed the award, that’s fine, but not Mariah Carey!”
She went on to talk about the importance of finally winning a Grammy and related the moment to a story about a young boy trying to catch a butterfly. After the boy realizes that he might not perhaps ever catch a butterfly, that is precisely when “a butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose.”
Cyrus then added, “And this song, ‘Flowers,’ is my butterfly.”
Not A Single Win For The Singer:
Grammys 2024 turned out to be pretty lucky for the artist because Best Pop Solo Performance wasn’t her only award. Later that evening, she also won one of the most prestigious awards of the Grammys – Record of the Year – for ‘Flowers.’
During her acceptance speech, she said, “This award is amazing, but I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular, so please don’t think that this is important.”
While ending her speech, she brought back OG Miley when she said, “I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!”
Miley’s Symbolic Performance: The One That Made Us Cry!
At Grammys 2024, Miley Cyrus performed her hit solo, ‘Flowers’ – and boy, what a performance! We literally felt like we had seen her grow up into this beautiful woman – from the times she was singing the theme song for Hannah Montana to singing a Grammy-winning hit!
During her performance, Cyrus tweaked the lyrics of the song a little to celebrate her accomplishments.
Her wins that evening came after a long career-spanning eight nominations – out of which 6 nominations came through this year alone!
In November, Cyrus reacted to the news of bagging six Grammy nominations by writing, “It’s fun to be nominated & exciting to win, but having my music LOVED around the world is the real trophy.”
At the time, she alluded to the simple fact that the top categories this year were dominated completely by women. She also said during this time, “Watching women rule the music industry makes me proud.”
Cyrus bagged her first nomination for the Grammys for Bangerz, her 4th studio album, way back in 2015. At the time, Bangerz was competing for the Best Pop Vocal album.
She also spoke to a popular media house that she was so surprised with the nomination that she initially thought it to be a joke. She said, “I was like, ‘You’re kidding … there’s no way. I googled, and I was like, ‘oh yeah! I am, I actually am!'” That award ultimately went to Sam Smith for “In the Lonely Hour.”
Sadly, Cyrus did not receive any other nomination at the Grammys until 2022. And that too as a featuring artist in Lil Nas X’s album, Montero for Album of the Year. Since the track ‘Am I Dreaming’ featured Miley Cyrus, she earned a Grammy nomination.
About Flowers (In Case You Still Didn’t Hear The Song *Judging You*)
FYI, ‘Flowers’ debited at number one on the much-coveted Billboard Hot hundred songs in January 2023. This was the second time Miley’s song has topped the chart. The first Miley Cyrus song to top Billboard was ‘Wrecking Ball’ and it happened in 2013.
While Endless Summer Vacation debuted at number 3 on the 200 albums chart, her 2020 album, Plastic Hearts, did debut at number 2 but failed to receive any Grammy nominations.
Although the Grammys officially recognized Cyrus only this year, she has won multiple trophies in the past from the Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. Other popular musicians who have never won a competitive Grammy include Snoop Dogg, Katy Perry, and Diana Ross.
The Emotions Behind Miley Cyrus’ Big Win:
As Cyrus started singing ‘Flowers’ at the Grammys 2023, she changed the sing’s lyrics swiftly from the original “I started to cry, then remembered I can buy myself flowers” to “I started to cry, then remembered I just won my first Grammy!”
As fans, we are emotional to see our teenage icon is finally getting her dues! And we are not the only ones saying so – Twitterattis agreed!
While one fan wrote, “Seeing Miley Cyrus saying she won her first Grammy made me emotional,” another fan wrote, “Literally so emotional i grew up with Miley and now I’m watching her win two Grammys tonight.”
It was such an emotional moment. We grew up with Miley Cyrus, and then watching her win not one but two Grammys was such a beautiful moment. Plus that brilliant speech – the moment was literally everything!
While she performed her Grammy-winning song, she took a dig at her former partner, Liam Hemsworth. If you have forgotten, Cyrus and Hemsworth used to date and even got married briefly. Moreover, the relationship lasted for five freaking years before they broke up (*thank god for the breakup*)
As the artist sang, “I didn’t want to leave you,” she interrupted herself, adding, “But I had to!” Then she also added, “I didn’t want to fight,” before again interrupting and adding, “But we did!”
If you are not well versed in Miley’s backstory, she met her former husband, Liam Hemsworth, in 2010 at the sets of The Last Song! The relationship went through a whole array of ups as well as downs. They were literally in an on-again-off-again situation for years before announcing their engagement in 2016.
In 2018, they got married before divorcing briefly after that the next year in 2019.
The Law Of Detachment And Miley’s Win: A Theory
So, here’s our theory!
Have you heard about the law of detachment? As per the law of detachment, in order to truly manifest your desires, you have to detach not just from the outcome itself but also the road to the outcome.
The law of detachment is about surrender and trust – it is about giving up control. The moment you free yourself from the outcome of how things must be, you end up making yourself open to plenty of opportunities.
Doesn’t this apply strangely to Miley? Plus, the butterfly story she narrated at the Grammys 2024 essentially talks about the law of detachment.
Miley desired to win a Grammy like her contemporaries. But she was not being able to free herself from being tied to the outcome. After she did, there was no stopping her – out came, ‘Flowers,’ one of the biggest hits of 2024 and Miley’s entire career.
Suddenly, Miley was ruling! Every club was playing her song, Billboard agreed, and fans went crazy. It was about time the Grammys gave Miley her due recognition.
You go, girl – detach from the outcome, and let like attract like!
