Shershaah Movie Review: Sidharth Malhotra Plays Captain Vikram Batra – 2021 Bollywood Update

The cinematic retelling of the Kargil hero Vikram Batra is portrayed well in the Siddharth Malhotra starred movie, Shershaah. Kiara Advani plays the role of Vikram Batra’s college sweetheart Dimple Cheema in the film. The film was supposed to hit the cinema halls last year. But as the pandemic lockdown has shut down all multiplexes, Shershaah movie is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

The Story Of The Actual Shershaah

Vikram Batra, the 1999 Kargil War hero, is not our typical soldier from a family of war veterans and was born with a patriotic instinct. He was always fast to make friends on the warfront and in real life.

His love life had some caste prejudices because he and his girlfriend belonged to different religious communities. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra by the Indian Government for his utmost bravery at the Kargil War.

Did Siddharth Malhotra Do A Good Job?

Siddharth Malhotra seemed to have done a decent job in playing Vikram Batra at the Shershaah Movie if we talk about acting. We emphasize the decent job partly because he did the soldier part pretty well, but the romantic hero part?-Not so much.

We can’t only blame the new hunk in Bollywood for screwing up the romantic hero part; there is enough blame to put on Kiara Advani’s shoulder also. Their Punjabi accents don’t seem to be working too well in their favor. Sometimes the accents are all over the place, and the dialogues seem clunky. It looks like the dialect coach did not do such a good job after all.

But, when Sid is off to the war front, the movie pace picks up. His interactions with Dimple will no longer trouble you because now they will only send ‘sandesas’ to one another. The way Siddharth plays Vikram’s role in the army is mind-boggling. He operates on instincts, and he makes friends quickly.

The way he delivers the famous line of ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’ is also stunning to hear. The sound effects in those scenes don’t burst our eardrums but inspire us with this anthemic war cry.

Conclusion

If we talk about the story portrayal of Vikram Batra, we can say Vishnu Varadhan did a good job in the Shershaah Movie. The overall portrayal of Siddharth Malhotra as a young adult war hero was well-handled by the director. But, as far as his chemistry with Kiara Advani goes, that part is not something to remember from the movie. So, on a scale of 1-10, we can give a 5-star rating to this simple war drama.
