Audience Walked Out On Rogers Waters, As He Read Out Bizzare Pet Stories
Roger Waters, the musician, enraged the fans of Pink Floyd at the London Palladium during the show on Sunday. Waters was booked for doing a live premiere of his album, Dark Side of the Moon Redux, but many of the audience walked out even before any song was performed.
Waters is supposed to do two shows at Palladium, and this was the first among the two. The musicians were fifteen minutes late for the scheduled performance. Instead of performing the hits, Waters read off his yet-to-be-published memoirs from his laptop, Dark Side Of The Moon: Memoirs Of A Lanky Prick.
Music critic from The Times, Will Hodgkinson, said, “One story involved a duck that came to live in the family home. Another began promisingly as a memory of Floyd’s original leader, Syd Barrett, but revealed nothing more than that Barrett wrote a lot of songs and had an innocent air about him.”
The Daily Mail reported that the duck story continued for more than twenty minutes, and then he went on reading about his other pets from his laptop. The music critic from The Telegraph, Neil McCormick, said that the whole show “had an unrehearsed air, with a tension exacerbated by Waters’ school masterly demeanor, as he sternly brooked no interruption.”
When he was interrupted by the unexpected setlist, he screamed “fuck off” at the fans, and many of them actually left after that. The Brain Damage coverage was glowing and also confirmed that the event took off as per the plan. The show was supposed to be broken into two halves, each consisting of 50 minutes.
The first part was supposed to be other stuff, while the second part was titled “Dark Side of the Moon Redux,” which confirms that the first half was planned to have other stuff. It is still not clear how the audience mixed up the schedule.
