Dickie Arbiter, Queen’s Former Secretary Of Press, Gave Verdict On “The Crown” Actresses
The finale of “The Crown” dropped this Thursday and featured three surprise incarnations of Queen Elizabeth II, who came together under the arch of St. George’s Chapel. Olivia Colman, Imelda Staunton, and Claire Foy came together for a penultimate scene where the real queen is buried.
There is a hawkish viewer of the series on Netflix, that is, the Queen’s former secretary of the press, Dickie Arbiter. He is not reflecting on the performances of these three women who played the role of her boss in the series.
He was scornful about Staunton and Colman’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth for the last four seasons of the series. This was the time when he was closely associated with Her Majesty and worked closely with her.
Arbiter mentioned that he failed to recognize the “drawm” woman Colman played. He even argues that the portrayal of the Queen by Staunton was gloomy, and did not do justice to the queen.
He mentioned it to Deadline: “I don’t remember her being glum and boring. Glum if there was a death in the family or one of the dogs had to be put down, but she was playing glum and boring right the way through.”
But he praised Staunton for a scene in which she did well. It was the scene where the Queen was addressing the nation after Princess Diana died. Arbiter worked behind the speech and orchestrated it for the Queen in reality.
Last month in an interview, Arbiter accused Peter Morgan, the creator of “The Crown,” and said, “dramatic license gone bonkers.” This was because of how he portrayed the events around the death of Princess Diana. He was critical of the scenes Prince Charles broke the news of Princess Diana’s death to her sons, Princes Harry and William. He said, “The sequence of Charles telling his sons of their mother’s death was so insensitive, it was so unnecessary. The death of their mother is still raw with both of them.”
